AS A REMINDER, per city ordinance, the City of Alton will continually bill for trash service as long as the property maintains active water service. If water service is discontinued at an address, the City of Alton does not automatically stop billing for trash service until we receive a written request for abatement for the trash service.
If you are currently without water service at an Alton address, to stop the billing for trash service at that address, you need to complete a REQUEST FOR REFUSE ABATEMENT form, which is available under ‘Forms and Applications’ Look under the “City Comptroller” section for the form.

TRASH CONTAINERS – Republic Services provides containers for trash, recycling, and yard waste. If you need carts, please contact Republic at 618-656-6883. They can let you know cart availability and any extra charges for extra carts.
Please only use the carts for their intended purpose.
The carts are:
Trash containers have black, blue lids.
Recycle containers have Dark Green, Yellow or Powdered Blue lids.
Yard waste containers have Brown lids. **NOTE if you use your own yard waste container, please ensure it has a large, RED X on it.
The city of Alton does not own or distribute trash or recycle containers.
